Unruly Guests- When Clever Crows Can Become a Nuisance!
Beware of engaging with clever crows. Let me share an incident that taught me a valuable lesson about these intelligent and cunning creatures. I had just installed a new, lavish front lawn, which was not only visually stunning but also costly. However, my excitement turned into distress when I noticed parts of the sod being lifted and pulled over. It seemed like some birds were attempting to find worms beneath the grass.
Seeking advice from my colleagues, they suggested putting up “sparkly things” all over the yard. The glimmering lights were believed to deter the birds and keep them away. Following their counsel, I adorned my lawn with numerous sparkling items, making it shimmer from a distance. However, this strategy backfired, attracting even more crows to the area.
Soon, I found myself facing no less than ten clever crows at a time, wreaking havoc on my beloved lawn. My attempts to scare them away or discourage their return were futile. They became increasingly audacious and unyielding, thwarting all my efforts to protect my property. It seemed like a lost cause as they organized themselves into a menacing group, making my life a living battle with these vengeful birds.
Despite my endeavors to fight back, employing tactics like throwing pebbles or setting up noise devices, the crows proved to be remarkably intelligent. They appeared to anticipate my moves and outwit my traps, rendering my efforts fruitless. The situation worsened as they rallied more crows to join their cause, making me the eccentric figure in the neighborhood, struggling to defend my property against this aerial onslaught.
The crows’ behavior was unsettling; they exhibited signs of intelligence, deviousness, and a capacity for holding grudges. I learned the hard way that they have the ability to recognize individuals and communicate with other clever crows about those they dislike or perceive as threats. Their coordinated attacks seemed almost personal, focusing solely on my property while leaving my neighbors undisturbed.
The conflict, dubbed “The Great Crow War of 2014,” persisted for about two weeks until my surrender. I finally acknowledged that I couldn’t overcome their tactics and decided to leave them alone. Surprisingly, once I ignored them, the clever crows ceased their relentless assault, as if they had achieved their purpose.
The aftermath of the battle left my lawn in disarray, with remnants of the once sparkling items scattered about and patches of exposed dirt serving as a bitter reminder of my defeat. I realized that crossing paths with crows was not a matter to be taken lightly. Their memory and capacity for vengeance could have lasting consequences, and their actions could affect not only your property but also your peace of mind.
Since then, I have learned my lesson and developed a newfound respect for these remarkable birds. Whenever I encounter a crow, I make sure to keep my distance and refrain from any form of mistreatment. Understanding their intelligence and ability to hold grudges has taught me to coexist peacefully with these creatures, avoiding any future regrettable confrontations.
In conclusion, my experience with the Clever Crows served as a humbling lesson, reminding me never to underestimate the intelligence and resourcefulness of these creatures. Treating them with respect and leaving them undisturbed is the best course of action to avoid any unwanted confrontations and potential regrets.

My yard is full of Ravens. Since this is farm land they have plenty to eat. I talk to them and study them. Both birds are actually very close in behavior. Respect them they are most interesting. It is illegal to harm them, no matter the nuisance

All their friends come within. One day my boyfriend and I were at friends house they showing pin striping he did to his car. All the sudden something hit my chest. I automatically grab, it was a crow he had string tangled around his legs. So we got that cut off I petted his head and let him go. He went to tree and squeaked and squeaked. Thanking me.

Sir you are a problem for putting a fake lawn instead of a garden to grow food or help the eco system. I love crows they love me cuz I’m in harmony and balance with the natural world much more so than installing a fake lawn. Please for the love of climate change…. Grow food not lawns. You can also pick up the book Food Not Lawns or any permaculture book to help you get started. Thanks
